ReCreate: The Ultimate Great American Staycation: Camping Out -- in the Backyard!

Hi, there! Just back from the Ultimate Great American Staycation!

Yes, it took less than 30 seconds to get there and was 20 yards away. Yes, we had plenty of electricity, water, and emergency shelter available in the event of inclement weather. And yes, it was absolutely free and environmentally-friendly. Heck, I might have even saved a few cents since the fans weren't running all night long!

And you know what? I think my son actually enjoyed the fact that his safe and comfortable home was right outside his tent window.

Cross "tent-camping" off the summer "to-do" list? Check. Everybody happy? Check.

Feel free to share your favorite camping memory below...no matter if it's in your backyard or beyond, camping tends to leave a lasting impression.

CC again. You know, now that you mentioned it, I was tempted to do exactly the same, ON MY FRONT BALCONY! Its big enough, and the thought did cross my mind way before coming across your post, but I kinda figured I would pass on that since 1. My neighbours would think I was barmy and/or showing off 2. My nearest neighbour has two young daughters, and I'd not wanna be caught indecent with a can of booze in me hand 3. I know myself, I'd be rushing back in for the a/c, internet access and satellite tv. Last time I was out camping was when I was young, dumb and in the military, and those days are waaaaaaaaaay over! Besides, being in the wild these days prolly means you need firearms for self-protection, and its too much a hassle just to lie out with the bugs and raccoons, not to mention the blair witch mothman yeti and all! :P
